Hosting a Stepping On Workshop

Stepping On workshop leaders display falls prevention devices and materials to give workshop participants a hands-on learning experience.

By hosting a Stepping On workshop, you make a huge contribution to the health and well-being of older people in your community who are at risk of falls. But you're probably wondering just what you're getting into.  There are several things to consider as you plan for your workshop.  Do you have a partner organization?  Do you have dates and a location for your workshop?  How will you promote the workshop?

If your organization has a trained Leader as an employee or volunteer, you can work together to schedule and organize your workshop.  If you don’t have a Leader in your organization already, there are two options:

  • If you are interested in an employee or volunteer for your organization becoming a Leader, contact WIHA to find out about upcoming Leader Trainings and  determine whether the individual you have identified would qualify for the Leader Training.
  • Contact your local County or Tribal Aging Unit or Aging & Disability Resource Center or WIHA to determine whether there are trained Leaders already in your area who could lead a workshop with your organization.  Together you’d divide up the tasks of scheduling and organizing the workshop for your clients, patients, members or the general older adult population in your area.

To simplify the workshop hosting process for you, we've created a Stepping On Planning Guide to help you organize your workshop.  If you have questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact us.
