Stepping On and Positive Attitude Helps Nebraska Woman Cope With and Avoid Falls

gwenpictureDid you know that the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging is the U.S. license holder for the Stepping On falls prevention program?  WIHA has trained hundreds of leaders in many states enabling them to bring Stepping On to communities all across the country.  As in Wisconsin, happy participants often share their stories.  Here’s a letter from 85-year-old Gwen Krieser of Garland, Nebraska:

To the Stepping On staff at the Seward Civic Center:

Learning to Live Well

Meet Dion. Dion attended a six-week Living Well course that I co-facilitated and from the start it was clear that Dion wanted and needed help. During the first 2½ hour meeting, as we did introductions around the group, Dion cried when he described his chronic conditions which included epilepsy, a heart condition, a skin condition, being overweight, and some depression. He is a 20-year-old who lives with his mom and sister and was referred to the class by his epileptologist.

Reluctant is one way to describe Marci Reynold’s feelings about taking on new health promotion programs at ThedaCare in Waupaca.  As manager of health and wellness at Waupaca’s Riverside Medical Center, Reynolds oversees the delivery of health and wellness programs to the community, but had seen a drop off in attendance and enthusiasm for the classes.
